Estate story

Land of Wine and Honey

Villa i Cipressi is a small, family-run estate just outside Montalcino, located along the road toward Sant’Angelo in Colle. What began as a beekeeping farm in the 1970s has grown into a diverse agricultural estate producing Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino, Grappa di Brunello, extra virgin olive oil, and honey. The Ciacci family’s work is rooted in a deep respect for nature, with organic farming principles and photovoltaic energy guiding the estate’s production. Their wines offer a personal, ecological, and distinctly Montalcino expression of Sangiovese.

Why this place matters

The Leader of Sangiovese?

Brunello di Montalcino is one of Tuscany’s most celebrated appellations, produced exclusively from Sangiovese grown around the hilltop town of Montalcino. The area’s varied elevations, exposures, and varied soils give Brunello its signature combination of power, elegance, and long-aging potential. These wines are known for their depth and structure, often showing red cherry, dried herbs, balsamic, spice, and earthy complexity as they evolve. In the hands of smaller estates, Brunello becomes not only a benchmark Tuscan wine, but a deeply personal expression of vineyard, vintage, and family tradition.

Family & estate

Big Family in Small Estate

Villa i Cipressi was born from Hubert Ciacci’s decision to expand his father’s small beekeeping business, first into honey and olive oil and later, in the 1990s, into vineyards. Today, Hubert, Patrizia, and their sons Dario and Federico manage the estate together, each contributing to a different part of the family project. Federico oversees wine production as oenologist, Dario manages sales and marketing, and Patrizia helps shape the estate’s image and hospitality. The result is a “big little” family estate where wine, oil, honey, and agricultural life are treated as connected expressions of the same land.

Cellar philosophy

Long-Aging

Villa i Cipressi began producing Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino in 2000, working with a cellar philosophy that balances precision, tradition, and the character of Sangiovese. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, while aging is adapted to the wine: Rosso di Montalcino matures briefly in barriques and large casks before bottle aging, while Brunello spends 24 months in wood, divided between French barriques and large barrels. The estate’s top selection, Zebras, is produced only in the best vintages from the finest grapes and receives additional aging beyond the regular Brunello. Though small, the cellar is a distinctive space, decorated with zebra-inspired artwork that has become part of the estate’s identity.

Farming & philosophy

Sustainable and Organic

Sustainability is central to Villa i Cipressi, from organic farming to the use of solar energy as the estate’s primary power source. The family’s ecological outlook extends beyond avoiding synthetic chemicals; it also includes attention to biodiversity, soil health, and low-impact vineyard work. Horses are used in the vineyards to reduce soil compaction, while the estate’s beekeeping origins continue to shape its agricultural identity. Villa i Cipressi is therefore not only a Brunello producer, but a working Montalcino farm where wine, honey, olive oil, and respect for nature remain closely intertwined.
